GMANews.tv are Sending Wrong News Info on Chess

This is proof that chess is not really mainstream. Online news articles are published with erroneous info, and no one seems to bother.

In GMANews.tv, "So seeks to sustain giant-killing ways vs Malakhov":

After hurdling three Russian heavyweights in a smashing campaign in the 2009 World Chess Cup, GM Wesley So resumes his bid for chess history when he takes on GM Vladimir Malakhov of Russia in the 16-player fourth round at the Khanty-Mansiysk Center of Arts. So, dubbed by the foreign media here as "a fantastic gold nugget causing the World Cup irreplaceable losses with his upset victories," begins a two-game showdown against the 22nd-seeded Malakhov (ELO 2706) Monday in one of eight remaining matches being held to determine the challenger to the next world champion.

Wesley So on a Winning Streak in the Chess World Cup 2009

This time at the expense of the World's No. 41 (according to the FIDE Ratings List of November 2009), GM Gata Kamsky. With this win, I guess Wesley So deserved a Super GM status already. I just hope and pray that he wins (or at least draw to advance to the 4th round of the tournament) his second game against Kamsky tomorrow.

Here's Game 1, where Wesley So won with black against Gata Kamsky with some annotations by Fritz12: Read More »

When Wesley So Defeated Vassily Ivanchuk

As you might have already known by now, Wesley So defeated Vassily Ivanchuk (who is the No. 12 player in the latest November 2009 FIDE Ratings List) in Game 1 and drew Game 2 in Round 2 of the Chess World Cup 2009 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, to advance to the round 3 and face off the overall winner of the Chess World Cup 2007, Gata Kamsky.

Now for posterity sake, I want to post the first game here, where So won with Black. It might not be a compelling win at all for Wesley So, but well, that's what you call 'Filipino pride!' Read More »

Game Analysis: Deuts vs. Mozgoved

This is the first installment for the new chess hive. I met Mozgoved from Playchess.com server. He made a few back-and-forth moves that somehow contributed to his cramped position.

This game was analyzed with ChessProgram12 software, with Fritz12 as the chess engine. Additional commentaries were then added by me.

Note that you can replay through the game using your arrow keys. You can click on the white triangle to play through the variations. Read More »

Magnus Carlsen Losing His Magic?

The young Magnus Carlsen finds himself tied at the fourth place after round 4 in the Tal Memorial 2009 tournament.

All games were drawn, except one: Vladimir Kramnik beat Peter Svidler in an Exchange Grünfeld that looked quite effortless on the part of the former World Champion. Magnus Carlsen, it was revealed, is suffering from a throat infection and has played his last three games with A fever. The Norwegian is now on antibiotics.

Chessbase

Was it really the infection or he's just lost his magic from his super performance at Nanjing?

In the November 2009 Official FIDE Rankings List, Carlsen was No. 2, nine ELO-points behind Veselin Topalov at 2801, already broke the 2800 barrier. Read More »

To the chess enthusiasts, welcome to your new home. This is your source of chess news, opinions, game analysis, etc. Armed with my own copy of Fritz12, together we try to examine some games, my own and possibly yours.

There are a lot of chess related websites already, but I don't know there's just something missing. There has got to be a community. I hope to build one in here.

Hopefully, in the near future we can start and get everything going in here. I just have so much chess-related posts or opinions that I hope to share with everyone in the world wide web.
