Philippines vs. India; Round 3 – Baku 2016 Chess Olympiad (Women)

Although WIM Janelle Mae Frayna was able to stand her ground against grandmasters in the last two rounds of Baku 2016 Chess Olympiad, the other team members weren’t lucky enough as they faced their much stronger opponents.

Thus, Philippines lost to India 3.5-0.5:

Philippines vs. Nigeria; Round 3 – Baku 2016 Chess Olympiad (Open)

Did you know that GM Torre, who’s playing his record 23rd Olympiad, is 3-0 so far?

It was third straight win for GM Eugenio Torre on his stint so far in Baku 2016 Chess Olympiad, as the Philippines beat Nigeria (3-1) in Round 3.

Philippines vs. Paraguay Round 2 Results – Baku 2016 Chess Olympiad

Asia’s first Grandmaster, GM Eugene Torre, never failed to deliver so far in two rounds of Baku 2016 Chess Olympiad. He won his game anew, this time in Round 2 against GM Jose Fernando Cubas of Paraguay in Board 3 of their match.

Sadly, that was the only win for Philippine team in Round 2 of Open Section. Julio Catalino Sadorra drew his game in Board 1. The rest lost their games.Replay »

Philippines Women Team Pulls an Upset Against the 4th Seed Georgia in Round 2 of Baku 2016 Chess Olympiad

The Philippines Women Team in Baku 2016 Chess Olympiad pulled an upset against the 4th seed, Georgia, in Round 2.

The Philippines had an average rating of 2148 vs. Georgia that had an average rating of 2470. That’s 321 average rating difference. See the match-up and the individual games results below.
