Aeroflot Chess 2010 Final Standings

After Wesley So settled for draws in the 8th and 9th (last) rounds of the tournament, he placed 11th after the tiebreak with 5.5 out of 9 games, with three wins, five draws, and one loss. Nevertheless, he earned the top junior champion title.

Wesley So Draw in Round 6 and 7 of Aeroflot Chess 2010

2 more rounds to go, and GM Wesley needs to win the next and last two games, in order to post a convincing win of the title. As of end of Round 6 (Round 7 is not yet for the other games as of press time), So is tied for 4th to 14th place, being half a point behind the three leaders.

The Melkumyan-So Story; Aeroflot Chess 2010 Round 5

It started with a Slav Defense, continued with a good exchange sacrifice with 23... Qxf4! which opened up White's king for Black's attack. White tried to counter-attack but failed.

Aeroflot Chess 2010 Round 4: Wesley So Wins, Laylo Draws

It was a great by GM Wesley So with white. He was really able to materialize on black's bad move on move no. 20... O-O-O?.

Round 3 AeroFlot Chess 2010: Laylo's 3rd Straight Loss in 3 Games

It was a bad day for our Filipino contingents. Wesley So lost his games earlier. And now Laylo never did see the shine of the day for three consecutive days and three consecutive games — the first 3 games, that is.

Aeroflot Chess 2010 Round 3: GM Wesley So lost to GM Ngok Truong Son Nguyen [REPLAY GAME BELOW]

It's a heartbreak for us Filipino Chess fans and Wesley So fans. Why so careless?

Wesley So Wins in 2nd Round of AeroFlot Chess 2010 [Replay Game Below]

GM Wesley So wins his 2nd game in Aeroflot Chess 2010 against the Russian Grandmaster (but lower rated at ELO 2594) Dmitry Bocharov.

Wesley So started to gain grounds after black's 17... d5. From thereon, he never looked back and won the game.

On the other hand, GM Darwin Laylo lost the second time in two games. This time against the Azerbaijan player GM Eltaj Safarli.

Laylo might have miscalculated his moves when he exchanged a knight for a pawn on his 19th move with 19... Nxe5.
