A Terrible Blunder by GM Wesley So on Round 11 Vs. the Group Leader
We have seen in the last few days during the course of the tournament (Corus Chess 2010) how GM Wesley So gave up his winning chances and eventually settling up for a mere draw. We have seen these games in:
However, the lost chances did not stop there. Last night, on his game against the Group B leader, Anish Giri, he had his chance to grab the leadership with a winning position. A couple or so weak move later and a blunder on move 36, he resigned.
It would have been Wesley's sure ticket to play in Group A of Corus Chess 2011 (next year), and be among the group of world leaders like Magnus Carlsen, Vladimir Kramnik, Vishwanathan Anand, etc. Nevertheless, Wesley is still young, and the future is bright ahead of him.

Corus Chess 2010 Round 10: Nyback vs. So
According to Chessdom, the internet connection at the playing area in Wijk aan Zee last night went unreliable, and so spectators were left hanging as to what happened to the games. Got the pgn from chessbase and the game between Nyback and Wesley So resulted in favor of the latter. At the end of this specific game, it was somehow intelligible that black has an advantage being a piece (bishop) up in exchange for two pawns. But I guess (it's my opinion) that time pressure was another factor why white resigned so early before he was clearly lost.
After this round, Wesley So is just a half-point away from the sole leader, Anish Giri, who he will be playing against tomorrow, January 29, 2010. If So could only win this one, there's a big chance he will come away the big winner of the group (Group B).
Today is rest day, so see you tomorrow.

Ni Hua vs. Wesley So on Round 8
Round 8 for GM Wesley So in Corus Chess 2010 Group B has been nothing spectacular. Even Fritz12 has nothing so much to say about it. No variation trees, none whatsoever. We can actually call it a quick draw.
Two in a Row for GM Wesley So
Round 7 results for GM Wesley So in Group B of Corus Chess 2010 in Wijk aan Zee. What else can I say, our wonder boy just simply played amazingly against a lower rated player Dimitri Reinderman:
