For the final round, GM Eugenio Torre delivered anew with a win for Team Philippines, but once again it was not enough, as GM John Paul Gomez on board 2 and GM Rogelio Barcenilla lost their games to the Aussies.

We slid down further from our olympiad tournament ranking of 53rd to 58th after the final round of the Baku 2016 chess olympiad. The losses at boards 2 and 4 as usual was the main culprit. Sadorra and Torre on boards 1 and 3 played their games well. The team captain should have placed Torre permanently on board 2 that could have changed the final result.
